My 3rd Charles Bargue copy is finally finished!! Excited to start my fist charcoal cast tomorrow. This drawing took around 6 weeks I think. I feel it helped me a lot with seeing values accurately and in basic technique. The number 1 thing I learned from it? Make your darkest dark as dark as possible or you will have to re-render everything later when you decide to make that darkest spot darker.
Values really mess with your head and really are relative to the surrounding values. What can look almost white amongst the shadows could look almost like a shadow when surrounded by light areas. While I knew this theoretically before, this Bargue made it concrete for me.
