Learning to paint

Painting is certainly a tricky beast.  I have been trying to get my hands on as much learning material as possible but I still feel like I am just winging it for the most part.  I am trying some different techniques and doing a lot of experimenting.

Here is a quick-ish still life that I did yesterday.  I am struggling with the colors when they are more muted… I feel like I grayed out the cutting board too much and made the table a really ugly yellow/brown/gray color that is only partly accurate.

I have been painting quite a bit but most of it isn’t worth taking the time to take a picture and load it onto the computer.  Once I get a few semi decent things going I’ll start posting more.

If anyone has any recommendations on good dvds or books on painting I would love to hear about them.  Most of the ones in which I really like the artwork turn out to be more “watch me paint” than actually learning something.  I don’t really know where to look.

Thanks for following!
