Plein air painting at Beartooth Pass

I went up to the pass again today.  I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to it.  Everywhere I look is a painting waiting to be painted.

It was a little windy today which made it a little trickier than usual to put the paint where I wanted to… The panel bounces around a bit with gusts of wind.

As you can see it was a cloudy day and with this comes constantly changing shadows.  I am starting to like these days more and more rather than being frustrated with them.  Choosing shadow shapes to help your composition becomes a lot of fun on days like this.
