Studio painting of the Beartooths

I have been having a lot of fun making some larger paintings lately.  I spend most my time outdoors (because I love it) but decided to spend a little more time and develope some finished paintings using my studies as reference. This one still needs a little more work.  18″x24″ oil on panel.    Advertisements

Painting Rocks at Rock Creek

I painted this the other day down at Rock Creek in Red Lodge, MT.  I think it may have been one of the most difficult scenes I have ever chosen. One of the hardest things about painting outdoors is having a time limit on making sense of the infinite information that we see in front…

Plein air painting at Beartooth Pass

I went up to the pass again today.  I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to it.  Everywhere I look is a painting waiting to be painted. It was a little windy today which made it a little trickier than usual to put the paint where I wanted to… The panel bounces around a bit…

Early morning light.

I managed to get out of bed early today and paint the early morning light.  This was painted on Meeteetse Trail in Red Lodge, MT.  I was looking to the North and the sun was casting beautifu shadows across the hillside from the East.   Gotta love the early morning quite.

After a day of hiking…

This was a quick one (about an hour and a half) after a hike up East Rosebud… Craaaaazy beautiful up there!   #oilpainting #cliff #east #eastrosebud #montana #landscape #mountains

Don’t bring your cat camping.

We went up to the Beartooth Pass today to camp for a few days.  After taking a 40 hour trip a few weeks ago with our cat Nina we thought it would be a good idea to bring her with us this time.  Apparently that was a bad idea. I managed to get one painting…

Can’t get much better…

I found an O.K. place to paint today 😉 … Today I am heading up to the Beartooth Pass to paint the incredible landscape up there.  I feel very fortunate that I am living in a time when there is still nature to experience.  Let’s keep it that way eh?
